Investment bank Jefferies developed a solution to optimize front-office operations based on autonomous AI agent technology. The system is capable of reasoning, planning actions, and executing tasks by coordinating calls to foundation models and external tools.
The technical implementation of the project relies on large language models, the Amazon Bedrock service, and knowledge bases from the same platform. To securely connect agents to heterogeneous data sources and tools through a unified interface, the open standard Model Context Protocol (MCP) was applied.
Development was carried out using the Strands Agents SDK, which enables the creation of agents that manage complex workflows. This allowed the bank to overcome operational complexities in trading activities without the need for manual integration of each individual source.

Why it matters
Demand for agent orchestrators in the banking sector is expected to grow, where the key factor will be the security of connections to internal data. The next observable signal will be the emergence of similar solutions among Jefferies' competitors. Uncertainty remains regarding the regulatory status of autonomous actions by such agents on the exchange.
